What is orthomosaic mapping?
Orthomosaic mapping (also known as photogrammetry) is the science of taking many photos of an area, stitching them together into one big picture and using that big picture to gather accurate data and measurements.
Benefits of Orthomosaic Maps
Construction and Real Estate Development
Drones can create orthomosaic maps of construction sites and capture the entire site in one map. This can be used for the following:
1. Progress monitoring
2. Stakeholder and investor updates
3. Increase the accuracy of invoicing
4. Track inventory on site
5. Reduce likelihood of litigation

These are just some of the benefits of orthomosaic maps. Nearly any kind of data or measurement of a worksite can be pulled from an orthomosaic map.

Who is this useful for?
Quick Look Summary

Progress Monitoring
-
In this example, we captured a 2D map of a new development under construction.

-
Creating a 2D map allowed us to easily identify which lots were completed, which were in progress, and which ones had not begun construction yet.

-
We can closely monitor the progress of each individual lot as well as the overall progress of the development with 2D maps.

This information can be very valuable to the following people or groups:
-
Banks who are loaning money to the construction company. Banks often require proof of how the loan is being used.

-
Investors and stakeholders who have money in the project and require regular updates from the construction company. A 2D map can simply be sent to the stakeholders and investors along with a map report (to explain the site and show data as needed)

-
Site supervisors can use 2D maps to more accurately and quickly document the progress of the site. This will help ensure that the project is on schedule and budget.
Inventory Tracking on Site

In this example, we created a 2D map of a commercial construction site. This time we documented all of the heavy equipment on site.

This data will help the site supervisor keep track of and manage the equipment onsite more effectively. Knowing what equipment is on the site AND having it documented can also help other projects that the company is working on if they need equipment on another site.
